A New Breed of Fantasy Writers in India is Coming up!

“Fantasy books are no less than a beings of a Magic world that are there with you to lift your spirit from the Mundane routine to the world of Miracles and infinite possibilities.” we are living in a world where a machine challenges your identity by asking to prove you're not a machine, “The Captchas”. My first encounter with the world of Magics happened to be with the Tolkien's Middle Earth, and from there onwards I made Fantasy as my sole-key to Nirvana. India is fortunate to have writers like Arundhati Roy, Khushwant Singh, Arvind Adiga, Jhumpa Lahiri, R. K. Narayan etc., who have made India proud in the world of novels and literature.

But what disappoints me are the Fantasy writings that are coming up these days. They are claimed to fall in the Fantasy genre only on the basis of few magical elements and a non-existent worlds and creatures. Somewhere in between all these Mythological cum Fantasy books I got my hands on to a novel called Inkredia that appeared Magical right from the first moment. A fuming pendant. A fierce-red cover. Inkredia proved the most fabulously magical journey I have experienced in the recent times. Being written by an Indian author, the book hardly make you realize you are reading something of Indian origin. The author of the book, Sarang Mahajan recently got interviewed by Halo of Books where he revealed how he came up with the Idea of Inkredia and what are his thoughts on the Fantasy literature.

I am hoping to see more such new breed of Fantasy writers in India so that the readers of Fantasy shouldn’t lose the sense of perceiving the authentic taste of Fantasies.
